Ashikaga Flower Park will host its annual Wisteria Festival, also known as Fujigatari, from April 12 to May 18, 2025. During this magical season, over 350 wisteria trees burst into full bloom-including a majestic 160-year-old Great Wisteria and an enchanting 80-meter-long white wisteria tunnel. Don’t miss this breathtaking display of fleeting beauty-only visible for a limited time each spring.

What’s Ashikaga Flower Park like?

Ashikaga Flower Park

The Ashikaga Flower Park in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture is a great place to see wisteria flowers. The Ashikaga Flower Park has a lot of wisteria that are blue, white, and pink, as well as yellow laburnum, which resembles yellow-colored wisteria.

A large wisteria tree that is 100 years old has been supported by its branches to form a huge umbrella of blue wisteria flowers. There is also a long tunnel of white wisteria flowers, while a tunnel of yellow kingusari needs a few more years to become an actual tunnel. Viewing Yae-fuji, a variety with more petals than usual, is also available.

The nearest station to Ashikaga Flower Park is Ashikaga Flower Park Station. It is a 4 minute walk from the station.

The Wisteria is an amazing sight

The Wisteria

The wisteria in Ashikaga Flower Park typically blooms at the start of May, a bit later than the wisteria in Tokyo by one to two weeks. Due to Ashikaga Flower Park being one of the top places to view wisteria flowers in Japan, it can become extremely busy even on weekdays during the peak season.

In addition to the wisteria, you will discover numerous other flowers, restaurants, and a shop that sells plants and local products. The admission fee is highly dependent on the season's beauty.

Winter offers a different perspective to enjoy

winter illumination

In the winter season, the park is very popular for putting on a massive winter illumination display. From mid October to mid February, the park's gates are open every evening to allow visitors to wander through the elaborate exhibition, which attracts large crowds every year.

The park grounds are decorated with hundreds of thousands of multicolored LED lights that cover flower bushes, line walkways, and turn them into huge, creative objects and sets on an impressive scale.

Several large, perpetually changing LED screens that display creative imagery, music-synchronized light shows, light tunnels, and countless wisteria-like LED chains hanging from the same lattices as the spring flowers are some of the most eye-catching attractions.
