Kenrokuen Garden

Kenrokuen Garden Kenrokuen Garden Kenrokuen Garden

Kenrokuen in Kanazawa is justifiably classified as one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens, alongside Mito's Kairakuen and Okayama's Korakuen.

The grounds, which were once the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle, were built by the ruling Maeda family over a period of nearly two centuries. Kenrokuen, which was opened to the public in 1871, showcases a range of flowering trees that give the garden a distinct appearance depending on the season.

The garden has many other stunning features, like the flowers and trees it has, like plum and cherry blossoms in spring, azaleas and irises in early summer, and colorful red and yellow leaves in autumn.

Kanazawa Castle

Kanazawa Castle Kanazawa Castle Kanazawa Castle

The powerful Maeda Clan, who ruled Kaga from 1583 until the end of the Edo Period, had their seat at Kanazawa Castle, which was the second-largest feudal domain after Tokugawa's possessions in terms of size and wealth.

Over the centuries, the castle has burned down multiple times, and only two storehouses and the Ishikawa-Mon Gate were able to withstand the latest fires in 1881. Kenrokuen is the location of the gate, which dates back to 1788.

The Higashi Chaya District is both the largest and the most intriguing. The Shima Teahouse and Kaikaro Teahouse are both open to the public. The central street now has cafes and shops in addition to other buildings. Hakuza, a shop in Kanazawa, sells gold leaf products, a specialty, and has a tea ceremony room that is fully covered in gold leaf.
