Shirakawago
The Shirakawa-go and neighboring Gokayama regions line the Shogawa River Valley in the remote mountains that span from Gifu and Toyama Prefectures.
Gassho-zukuri means 'constructed like hands in prayer', as the farmhouses' steep thatched roofs resemble the hands of Buddhist monks pressed together in prayer. Through many generations, the architectural style was developed to withstand the heavy snowfall that falls in the region during winter. A large attic space was created for silkworm cultivation by the roofs, which were made without nails.

Matsuri no Mori
The Matsuri no Mori, situated outside of Takayama's city center, exhibits the key aspects of the Takayama Festival, which happens every spring and autumn for two days. The festival is regarded as one of the most stunning events in Japan, alongside Kyoto's Gion Matsuri and the Chichibu Yomatsuri.
A hallway that is roughly 50 meters long leads to the main exhibition space, which is underground and creates a cave-like atmosphere from the museum's entrance. On the left side of the hallway, there are eleven miniature festival floats that are one-third the size of those used in the autumn festival.
