Shuri Castle

Shuri Castle

For several centuries, the Shuri Castle was the administrative center and residence of the Ryukyu kings until Okinawa became part of Japan in 1879. One of the designated sites for Castles of the Ryukyu Kingdom designated by UNESCO is the castle.

The castle's central buildings can be reached through multiple gates, including the famous Shureimon Gate. Shuri Castle's main buildings were destroyed by fire on October 31, 2019. Reconstruction works have begun with the aim of rebuilding the castle's main hall by autumn 2026. Tourists are being urged to visit the castle and observe the reconstruction work in the meantime.

Churaumi Aquarium

Churaumi Aquarium

The Churaumi Aquarium is widely believed to be the best aquarium in Japan. The Ocean Expo Park is centered around the former grounds of the 1975 International Ocean Expo in northern Okinawa, Honto and is the primary attraction.

The aquarium underwent a complete redesign and reopening in 2002. The Kuroshio Tank, one of the largest in the world, is one of the highlights when visiting Churaumi Aquarium. The tank is home to a vast array of species, the most notable being the giant whale sharks and manta rays.

Mabuni Hil

Okinawa's final and bloodiest battles took place at this hill in Peace Memorial Park. The entire territory falls under the control of Okinawa Senseki Quasi-National Park, which is only the second quasi-national park in Japan to be made up of a former battlefield.

Numerous prefectures and organizations have established memorials here to ensure that this era of tragedy and terror is never forgotten. The National Cemetery for the War Dead in Okinawa, situated on a hill, houses the remains of those who died in the battle. There is also a statue of three young men that represents peace, friendship, and love between teachers and students.

Soki soba

Saki sobs came from the word “Soki” which means pork spareribs in Okinawa. Soki soda is made by adding Soki meat on top of Okinawa soba. It is a traditional food in Japan and has become a Japanese food. The Japanese refer to pork ribs that have a comb-like shape as Suku.

Suku in Japanese means comb and it became Soki and was later on called Soki soba. The hard bone part of the pork ribs is known as Honsoki, while the soft bone part is known as Nankotsu Soki.
