The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum is located on the hill above Hypocenter Park, and it aims to educate future generations about the horror of war. Next to the museum stands a memorial hall for the victims of the atomic bomb with strikingly modern architecture.

Dejima

Dejima was an artificial island constructed in 1636 to separate Portuguese residents from the Japanese population and regulate their missionary activities.

Dejima is no longer an island, as the surrounding area was reclaimed in the 20th century. Dejima's historical structures such as various residences, warehouses, walls, and gates are still present or have been rebuilt in the area. Digging canals around all its four sides is the ultimate goal of converting Dejima back into an island.

Confucian Shrine

The Nagasaki Confucius Shrine is an uncommon shrine in Japan that is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The Chinese community in Nagasaki constructed the shrine in 1893. A museum can be found at the rear of the grounds, along with the colorful shrine.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a small garden with a bridge and pond. Yellow roofs decorate the ornate Chinese-style buildings. Flanking the shrine's courtyard are 72 life-size stone statues of sages, which weigh around two tons each and depict Confucius' disciples. Visitors are encouraged to search for a statue that looks like a relative among the statues at the shrine.

Glover Garden, an open-air museum in Nagasaki, showcases mansions built by various foreign residents of the city and related structures. After the second half of the 19th century, Western merchants settled down on the hill where it is situated.

The Former Glover House, the oldest wooden Western-style building in Japan, is what makes the garden so famous. In 1859, the opening of Nagasaki's port to foreign trade caused Thomas Glover (1838-1911) to move to Nagasaki as a Scottish merchant. Active in various industries, including shipbuilding and mining, Glover was prominently featured in the early history of Japan's industrialization.
