Hitachi Seaside Park is a park that is both spacious and well-known for its seasonal flowers in Japan. This is where one of nature's most dazzling floral displays is located. In the spring, more than 5 million Nemophila bloom, turning the entire area blue.

It is within 2 hours of Tokyo and has a small amusement park and several cycling and walking trails, making it a perfect nature outing option on a sunny day. The magnificent Nemophila is which blooms in spring from mid-April to early May.

Miharashi-no-Oka in Hitachi Seaside Park is approximately 4.2 hectares in size and is home to approximately 5.3 million Nemophila trees. The flower fields blend into the horizon and the sky on clear days. Enjoying panoramic views of both the park and the Pacific Ocean can be achieved from the top of the hill.

Miharashi Hill, which was dyed blue by Nemophila in spring, turns green in summer. The plant that is being grown is Kochia, which is also known as broom grass in Japanese. The best time to observe the green leaves is between mid-August and late September.

Miharashi Hill turns red during autumn. Autumn leaves can be seen at their best around mid-October. The Kochia Light-up is usually held in October. Don't miss this event, as it's only available for a limited time!

What times are best for avoiding crowds?

Nemophila bloom

Every year in spring, when the Nemophila bloom on Miharashi Hill, the park is crowded with many visitors. Depending on the time of day, traffic congestion on surrounding roads is expected in addition to the park's traffic congestion.

To enjoy the view in a relaxed way or take pictures in a place where there are no other people around, it's best to avoid weekends and holidays and visit early in the day.

In spring, you can enjoy various spring flowers other than nemophila. The park will be decorated with spring colors by 260,000 tulips of about 330 varieties until mid-April, with a total of one million daffodils of about 240 varieties. Additionally, in May, the Hitachi Rose Garden will have approximately 3,400 roses from around 120 varieties, starting with Himanasu.
