Nara Park, Todaiji Temple

Nara Park has a temple called Todaiji. Todaiji is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples, and a landmark in Nara.
Several smaller Buddhist statues and models of both former and current buildings are also on display in the Daibutsuden Hall. A popular sight is a pillar that has a hole in its base that is identical to the size of the Daibutsu's nostril. It is believed that those who are able to squeeze through this opening will receive enlightenment in their next life.
The park offers deer crackers for sale, and some deer have become skilled at bowing to visitors in order to ask for food. Although Nara's deer are quite friendly, they may become aggressive if they think you are going to give them food, so it's best to avoid teasing them with food.

Yakushi Temple

In the late 7th century, Emperor Tenmu built Yakushiji to aid in the recovery of his sick wife. Yakushiji, a temple that dates back to Japan's earliest days, has a strictly symmetric layout, with the main hall and lecture hall situated on a central axis and two pagodas flanking it.
The Yakushi trinity, an impressive work of Japanese Buddhist art, can be found in the main hall that was rebuilt in the 1970s after it was destroyed by fire. The East Pagoda, the only structure that has survived the many fires that have plagued it over the years, dates back to 730.
