Ishikawa, situated on Honshu's northern coast between the Sea of Japan and the cluster of mountains surrounding Mount Hakusan, provides awe-inspiring ocean views and stunning mountain vistas. In the 17th century, the area, once ruled by the wealthy Kaga clan, became a vibrant center for Japanese fine arts, including ceramics and lacquerware, and it is still one of the country's major artistic centers. To experience Japan's past, stroll through the historical center of Kanazawa or unwind in the hot springs of Kaga Onsen.

Kaga Onsen

Kaga Onsen

Kaga Onsen is a collection of four hot spring towns that are situated south of Kanazawa, close to Mount Hakusan, one of Japan's three 'honest mountains' . Over 1300 years ago, Hakusan monks discovered the hot springs, and they have become a popular and highly rated Onsen destination ever since.

The public baths in the center of each town are a characteristic of Kaga Onsen's hot spring towns. In the past, when not all Ryokans had their own baths, staying guests would visit the soyuinstead. These communal baths remain popular among both visitors and residents, and can provide tourists with a unique local bathing experience.
