What is Kyusyu like?

Kyusyu

Tonkotsu ramen, varied hot springs, dramatic mountains, and peaceful beaches are what make Japan's third-largest island famous worldwide. Eight steaming hot spring areas, known collectively as Beppu Onsen, have been created by seismic activity, along with soaring peaks to climb, such as Mt. Karakuni in the Kirishima mountain range.

Explore Japan's southern island at a leisurely pace to experience its combination of cutting-edge modernity and slow-paced living.

Kyushu's hot springs are the reason for this. In Oita, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima prefectures frequently use them to relieve their daily fatigue.

Over 6,000 people were surveyed by the Tourism and Regional Development Division of the Oita Prefectural Planning and Promotion Department in 2018, with the question 'Why did you choose Oita Prefecture for this trip?'

The survey revealed that 36.7 percent said they were attracted to hot springs as their most common response. Among the reasons given are the attraction to famous places and historic sites, being surrounded by rich nature, and having delicious food.

Numerous foods can be found

The second reason is that Kyushu has a rich variety of gourmet food that is highly satisfying. For example, Fukuoka Prefecture's tonkotsu ramen and mizutaki are famous.

According to legend, the trees were planted in the seventeenth century by Terazawa Hirotaka, the first lord of the Karatsu domain, to provide protection against wind and high tides along the dunes.

Takachiho Gorge, Miyazaki

Takachiho Gorge

Takachiho is a locality in northern Miyazaki Prefecture that is heavily influenced by Japanese mythology. The legend has it that Amaterasu, the Shinto Sun Goddess, was disturbed by her brother's cruel pranks and hid in a cave, causing the other gods and goddesses to try and lure her out.

The disputed landing spot of Ninigi no Mikoto, the god who was sent down from heaven to establish the lineage of Japanese emperors, is located here, along with Mount Takachiho-no-mine in Kirishima National Park.

The Gokase River cuts trough rocks in the Takachiho Gorge, creating a narrow canyon. The gorge's cliffs, which are nearly sheer, are made of volcanic basalt columns, which look like the scales of a dragon. The stone curved and moved as it formed.
